Typically, the CLCA San Diego year begins with the kick-off meeting. At this meeting, the new board of directors is introduced and members can reacquaint themselves with their peers.
In early spring, the state hosts the Landscape Industry Show in Los Angeles. This year, the San Diego chapter once again chartered a bus to take members to this important trade show. And, each year a block of seats is made available to horticulture students at Cuyamaca College - one way the chapter invests in the future of the industry.
In the spring and fall, the state hosts the Certified Landscape Technician Test. This program was developed to recognize proficiency in the landscape work force and provide the public with a means of identifying qualified landscape professionals. Many San Diego chapter members take advantage of this program. The San Diego chapter has hosted the event at Cuyamaca College 3 times in the past 10 years.
Throughout the year the chapter hosts a number of educational seminars geared toward owners and foreman level employees. Topics covered include: Estimating, Team Management, Soils and Fertilizers, Pruning, Color, Irrigation, Grading and Drainage, and other areas.
Baseball fans can count on an outing to the ballpark during the summer. For the past several years, the chapter has secured the rooftop of the Western Metals Building for this fun and well attended event. Thanks to the generosity of event sponsors, the cost is kept low for our members..
Mixing business with pleasure, the chapter hosts a number of social events which also act as fund raisers. The annual golf tournament is always a success giving members a break from the routine and a chance to socialize with their peers. Following the game, participants and their guests enjoy a BBQ dinner, awards ceremony and raffle drawing.
The charter fishing trip. Limited to about 20 anglers, the event includes an overnight fishing trip targeting yellowtail. Great fishing combined with a day of camaraderie make this a popular annual outing.
Throughout the year, the chapter participates in a number of community events and garden shows by providing information to homeowners about the advantages of hiring a licensed landscape contractor.
One of the biggest events sponsored by the chapter is the Annual Beautification Awards. The event includes an audio visual presentation featuring all the projects entered. The program is designed to recognize the outstanding work of chapter members and is publicized in the local media.
The year concludes on a festive note with a holiday dinner at which the contributions of sponsors and members are recognized.
